Riding Lessons!

weekly lessons for children aged 2-8

We are located in Curdridge between Wickham and Botley just off the A334 and facilities allow us to open for riding all year round.
We offer weekly riding sessions for children aged 2-8 (height and weight restrictions may apply)

These 20 minute riding sessions are designed to be fun for younger children, helping them to gain confidence in a safe environment without pressure with a member of staff working individually with each rider and parent/carer. Our Shetland ponies are very appealing to small children and the session can consist of a countryside walk or a more structured lead rein lesson in the arena. Riding hats are provided.

Opening times for SHETLAND PONY riding lessons at the Hampshire branch: PRIVATE TUITION on our bigger horses to be arranged outside of these times, please call 07780 667122:

  • Wed: 13.30 – 17.00
  • Thu: 13.30 – 17.00

New rider information

Firstly we would like to welcome all our new riders to Pony Magic and would ask that all our customers have a read through our information.

We also require all new riders to complete a rider registration form, which is necessary to comply with our insurance conditions. The form is basic and provides us with contact information and any details regarding medical conditions, which may affect riding.

These forms are held in confidence and not used for marketing purposes. You can complete a form by clicking here and bring it with you on your first visit. Alternatively please ask for one upon arrival.

Progress scheme

We continue to offer our fun and simple progress scheme (optional to all riders) which has proved to be very popular, recognising the achievements of our little riders and helping them to progress in logical steps to more advanced riding and pony care when they are older. There is a one off fee of £25 to register and we can work with children during a normal 20 minute session collecting stickers for each of 5 levels to earn rosettes and certificates!

You can also have fun learning at home, email for our great new fact sheets featuring your favourite ponies!

Terms and conditions

  • Pre-booking is essential so please call 07780 667122 to reserve a place for your child. All forward bookings require payment at the time of booking (cash or card ). 48 HOURS NOTICE must be given for cancellations or postponement or the full cost of the session will be forfeited. If 48 hrs notice is given we will be able to re-schedule for you within 3 months however no refunds will be made (this applies to all lessons and also our half hour birthday experience and pamper n ride packages ). Please make a note of your booked time and date, this helps to avoid excessive alterations, missed lessons and disappointments. Thank you in advance for your co-operation in this matter. We would suggest booking well ahead if you require a specific date or time. Please arrive 10-15 minutes before your booked time to allow time for hat fitting etc.
  • We aim to provide a safe and fun introduction to riding and ponies for younger children however it should be understood that riding can be a “risk sport”. Although our ponies are generally good natured and well trained they are still “flight animals” which means they can be startled by loud noises or sudden movement so we ask that you follow our instructions and approach the ponies quietly from where they can see you. Children should be closely supervised by parents at all times around the ponies and the stable yard where big horse and vehicles can be moving around.
  • Our ponies do love treats such as apples and carrots but please do not feed them unsupervised, do bring treats along if you wish but we will generally give them to the ponies at the end of the day when they have finished working.
  • It is essential that appropriate clothing is worn while riding for comfort and safety. Riding boots are ideal however any boots that offer some protection around the ankle with a flat sole and small heel will be ok. The foot should be fully covered and unlikely to fall off , so that means no crocs, sandals or flip-flops! Wellies are often perfectly ok, children should also wear trousers they can move freely in. It is advisable for parents to wear appropriate footwear as well as we will be asking you to come along with your children and we will be going off road, conditions can get a little muddy! It is essential for all riders to wear a well fitting hat conforming to current safety standards and we have a selection available to borrow free of charge. The British Horse Society recognised standards are PAS015, ASTM F1153, BSEN1384 and SNELL E2001. Please ask if you are unsure, we will be happy to help!
